PERSONAL INFO:
I'm a 43-year-old female, married, with two children. I live in a small town in South Dakota, having moved here five years ago from Las Vegas (what a change of pace, huh?).
I became an EMT about 4 years ago, joining the volunteer ambulance service in my hometown. I was an EMT-B for about three months before beginning the Intermediate course and got my license as an Intermediate after being a basic only six months. I also joined the volunteer fire department almost 3 years ago, becoming the first woman on the department here.

I enjoy being both an EMT and a Firefighter, although,
if you stop & think about it....
We work hand in hand, but...
In Firefighting the goal is to extinguish the flame...
In EMS the goal is to keep the flame alive...

How's that for a thought!!!

I truly believe that everyone should do some kind of volunteer work in their community, in whatever capacity they are able to fill.

Okay, enough about me....I'd really like to hear from other volunteers across America!! What do you do, do you enjoy it, & what are your thoughts on the state of volunteerism (is this really a word?) in this country (or for that matter, any other country)?????
